Why ‘Shades of Strength’?
Shades, refers to the unique and complex layers of identity, experiences, and meaning-making that each of us holds. Our multifaceted identities, histories, thoughts, feelings, beliefs and experiences are what make us truly individual in the world. Oftentimes, these identities or shades of self are used to divide, isolate, or disempower us. This might be based on our personal identities (experiences, beliefs, goals…); our social identities (race, age, gender, sexuality, ability, class…); our professional identities; or any other unique version of identification or expression.
Strength refers to the potential personal power that can be regained when going through the therapeutic process. Person-centred therapy is a powerful form of therapy, particularly for those who have felt disempowered, othered, not ‘good enough’, helpless or rejected in their past. My approach to therapy is rooted in client’s embracing and accepting their true self and feeling empowered to live their lives in a more authentic and autonomous way. Helping them to feel strong and secure in who they are and their place in the world.
The hope I have for my clients is that they can deeply understand the shades of self that make them a unique human. For some, this might look like exploring these layers and finding strength within them. For others, this could look like looking beyond the shades, layers, roles, and labels one picks up throughout their life. For these clients, they might find strength outside of their identities. Importantly, I am here to support my clients through their individual journey regardless of the direction it may head in.
Who we are
Approach
I see many different clients who reach out for support in facing a wide range of difficult experiences. Being inclusive is at the core of my work and I believe person-centred therapy is an approach that is applicable to most. No issue is too big or too small and no identity too complex. I aim to see the wholeness of the person whilst providing a safe space for exploration, change, and growth.
I offer culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and queer inclusive therapy. Importantly, I offer therapy to anyone who is wishing to dedicate time to a deeper understanding of themselves and the thoughts, behaviours, and feelings that are impacting their well-being.
Psychotherapy for Trauma
Trauma is a term used to encompass a wide range of intensely emotional and stressful experiences that can have an incredibly destructive impact on a person. Trauma can be complex and recovering can be extremely challenging and lonely. Psychotherapy can help you explore what has happened and how the trauma is impacting you, your well-being and your sense of self in the present day.
I aim to help you unpack your experiences at your pace, and in an environment that is safe, accepting, understanding and empathic. I support clients in cultivating their personal power, leading them to reconnect with themselves after traumatic events and flourish.
